Train Dispatching

We are seeking highly motivated and organized individuals to join our team as a Train Dispatcher. Train Dispatchers play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of trains across our vast network. This position requires strong multi-tasking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to make quick and sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. If you are a team player, with the ability to critically think and have exceptional communication skills, we want to hear from you!  

New dispatchers will receive company paid on-the-job training. No previous experience is required.

What Should You Know?

  • Training is 24 weeks and includes classroom and on-the-job-training.  Successful completion of all exams during the training period is a requirement for continued employment.
  • Benefits include competitive pay, tuition reimbursement, and Health, Medical, Dental, 401K on day one. 
  • Instead of working a standard 40-hour week, there are variable work hours and irregularly scheduled days off. Dispatchers are on call, even on nights, weekends, and holidays, and are required to report to work within 60 minutes of notification.
  • There are three dispatching shifts to cover our 24/7 operations, including nights, weekends and holidays.

  • The railroad never stops – you’ll work in an office environment but are expected to work your scheduled shifts regardless of weather conditions.
  • Union Pacific does not tolerate the use of drugs and alcohol. You will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing, mandatory testing for reasonable suspicion, and post-accident testing when applicable.
  • If hired, plan to commit to dispatching for a minimum of 3 years.  
  • Employees with dispatching experience describe the position as being foundational to their professional development and imperative to their overall knowledge of the railroad.
