RAILROAD OPERATIONS

Our Transportation Department moves Union Pacific’s locomotives and freight across the system safely and on time. This team is responsible for driving the trains from Point A to Point B.

The Mechanical Department is responsible for maintaining and repairing our fleet of 7,700 locomotives and 57,000 rail cars. Think of your local car mechanics, but much bigger.

The Engineering Department builds and maintains Union Pacific’s infrastructure, which includes our track, roadways, signals, bridges and buildings. Skills like welding and electricians play a key role in this department.
