Union Pacific Railroad is seeking a high-energy, hard-working intern to support the Risk Management team within the Law department. The Risk Management team is responsible for incident response and handling to resume and maintain rail operations. This position will be administered as a year-round, paid internship and provides hands-on experience in a fast-paced business environment with one of America's leading transportation and logistics companies. The work schedule is flexible and can be designed to accommodate the course commitments of the successful candidate. A flexible work schedule includes up to 40 hours per week during the summer months and up to 25 hours per week during the academic year. If you are a creative problem solver with strong analytical skills and have an interest in expanding skills with a Fortune 200 Company, come work for Union Pacific Railroad and help us revolutionize the way we build America! Your intern responsibilities include creating innovative methods to help mitigate risk, directly contacting internal and external customers, organizing documents in electronic repositories to facilitate efficient and comprehensive retrieval of the work product and managing Union Pacific assets to ensure compliance with policies, operating procedures and agreement terms.


Your intern responsibilities include providing support to the Risk Management department and its cross-functional partners. You will be tasked with working with internal and external customers to ensure that we maintain comprehensive investigation files, supporting the audit process by gathering documents for external reporting purposes and identifying efficiency opportunities within our internal processes.


As an intern, you will build knowledge and experience in our core business groups and their vision, business objectives, processes, systems, and services. You will have extensive contact with peers and interaction with senior leaders. There will also be an opportunity to put leadership, technical skills, and business knowledge to immediate use through high value project assignments.


The estimated wage for this position is between $20.00-$26.00 per hour. Final rate of pay will be based on several factors including year of study, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

 

Accountabilities

  • Learn and perform core department business group work tasks, processes, and customer services
  • Complete case file audits using standard work processes
  • Develop and execute project action plans and perform team assignments
  • Review, analyze and trend data
  • Perform administrative support for department business group managers
  • Develop and execute project action plans and perform team assignments
  • Build and strengthen a network of professional contacts within departments and across the company
  • Assist with project management for various company initiatives and complete administrative tasks and special projects
  • Remain open and flexible to perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications - Required

  • College credits equivalent to one year toward an undergraduate degree
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic organization, prioritization and time/project management skills

Qualifications - Preferred

  • College credits towards a degree in Business Administration, Pre-Law or Risk Management

Physical Requirements

  • This position requires extended periods of sitting and extended hours in front of computer screens
  • Maintain concentration, focuses on tasks and can make timely decisions
