Description

Network Planning & Operations is within Union Pacific's Operating Department. This intern position is on NPO's resource planning team, which includes forecasting, locomotives, crews, and freight cars. If selected as an intern, you will have opportunities ranging from building automated data sets in Tableau visualizations, to applying math to various network analysis, to engaging on current projects surrounding forecasting, locomotives, crews, and freight cars.

 

As an intern, you will build knowledge and experience in our core business groups and their vision, business objectives, processes, systems, and services. You will have extensive contact with peers and interaction with senior leaders. There will also be an opportunity to put leadership, technical skills, and business knowledge to immediate use through high value project assignments.

 

The estimated wage for this position is between $20-$26 per hour. Final rate of pay will be based on several factors including year of study, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Accountabilities

  • Assist with project management for various company initiatives and complete administrative tasks and special projects
  • Learn and perform core department business group work tasks, processes, and customer services
  • Perform administrative support for department business group managers
  • Develop and execute project action plans and perform team assignments
  • Build and strengthen a network of professional contacts within departments and across the company
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications - Required

  • College credits equivalent to one year toward an undergraduate degree
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic organization, prioritization and time/project management skills

Qualifications - Preferred

  • Experience in mathematical capacity analysis
  • Experience automating and standardizing communication and documents (Tableau, Snowflake, Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Completed or currently completing a class for Rail Traffic Controller (RTC)

Physical and Mental Job Requirements

  • This position requires extended periods of sitting and extended hours in front of computer screens
  • Maintains concentration, focuses on tasks and can make timely decisions

Work Conditions

  • Authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship
