If selected as the Corporate Relations intern, you will primarily support the Union Pacific Community Ties Giving Program. Responsibilities will include administration of corporate giving software, the review and processing of grant applications, serving as a point of contact for community organizations, tracking event sponsorships, reconciling contribution information for corporate reporting, analyzing giving histories, and other administrative and project-based assignments related to UP’s philanthropic programs. Communication and data management are key aspects of this internship.
Additionally, the Corporate Relations intern will work closely with the Public Affairs team.
As an intern at UP, you will build knowledge and experience in our core business groups and their vision, business objectives, processes, systems, and services. You will have extensive contact with peers and interaction with senior leaders. There will also be an opportunity to put leadership, technical skills, and business knowledge to immediate use through high value project assignments.
This position will be administered as a paid year-round internship and provides hands-on experience in a fast-paced business environment with one of America's leading transportation and logistics companies. The work schedule is flexible and can be designed to accommodate the course commitments of the successful candidate. A flexible work schedule includes up to 20 hours per week during the school year and up to 40 hour per week during the summer months. Most of the work will occur in-person at Union Pacific Center in downtown Omaha, with some remote work availability.
Corporate Relations is open to hybrid model, summer months in person and school-year remote.
The estimated wage for this position is between $20 - $23 per hour. Final rate of pay will be based on several factors including year of study, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
Accountabilities
- Support processes associated with UP’s philanthropic programs; manage data systems and maintain communications channels, particularly by email
- Assist with project management for various company initiatives and complete administrative tasks and special projects such as preparing executive briefing reports and managing philanthropic tracking software
- Updated and maintain select websites
- Learn and perform core department business group work tasks, processes, and customer services by directly supporting the Corporate Giving & Public Affairs team to manage our relationships with UP communities
- Perform administrative support for department business group managers
- Develop and execute project action plans and perform team assignments
- Build and strengthen a network of professional contacts within departments and across the company
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications - Required
- Must be a full-time student
- College credits equivalent to one year toward an undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Business Analytics, Communications, Data Science, Economics, Finance, FinTech, International Business, Management, or Marketing.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills; comfort with handling critical conversations
- Basic organization, prioritization, and time/project management skills
- Proficient Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) skills
- GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Experience with data and communication management software (Tableau, Blackbaud, Salesforce or similar, etc.)

Physical Requirements
- This position requires extended periods of sitting and extended hours in front of computer screens
- Maintains concentration, focuses on tasks and can make timely decisions
Work Conditions
