Description
Shop Technicians are responsible for inspecting, testing, adjusting, and repairing: analog and digital radios and their modules, Front of Train and End of Train devices, multiplex equipment associated with microwave radios, printers and similar work, without individual supervision.
Accountabilities
- Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors and/or customers and effectively handle conflict situations
- Required to operate any hand and power tools needed to accomplish the work
- Use soldering equipment such as hot air equipment utilized in the repair of Surface Mount component removal and replacements on printed circuit boards
Qualifications - Required
- Applicants must have reached the age of 18 or above.
- An Associate's degree
- Experience effectively operating the following: test equipment such as, but not limited to, voltmeters, oscilloscopes, frequency counters, service monitors, spectrum analyzers, frequency generators and other types of telecommunications test equipment
- Valid driver's license
- Knowledge of electronic theory, understand the operation of electronic components and be able to read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics
- Able to demonstrate technical ability by passing a written test AND malignment and troubleshooting techniques

Qualifications - Preferred
- Experience or equivalent training of one year or more in the field of electronics and/or electrical technology
- Federal Communications (FCC) license or are you able to obtain one within six months

- Able to demonstrate technical ability by passing a written test AND malignment and troubleshooting techniques
- Knowledge of electronic theory, understand the operation of electronic components and be able to read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics
- Ability to speak English in a clear, concise manner to communicate with coworker(s) and supervisor(s)
- Experience effectively operating the following: test equipment such as, but not limited to, voltmeters, oscilloscopes, frequency counters, service monitors, spectrum analyzers, frequency generators and other types of telecommunications test equipment
- Apply only to those locations where you are prepared to live and work
- Work will take place both in a shop environment and outside
- Must be willing and able to work around large equipment such as railcars, locomotives and cranes
- Willingness to practice safe work habits
- Agree to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection where the company requires
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring company sponsorship.
- Must be available to work any shift
- Travel Requirements: Travel may be required
