Description
Required Certifications: This position requires a CDL upon hire. You must meet the following Motor Vehicle and Medical Requirements: 1. Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
2. Have valid driver's license
Medical Requirements:Must meet the medical requirements (also called physical qualifications) for commercial motor vehicle drivers as specified by the US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The FMCSA physical qualifications for drivers can be found on the FMCSA homepage. Health and Medical Services at Union Pacific Railroad will make the final determination on whether or not an individual meets the FMCSA medical qualifications and may add additional medical requirements to assure the person can safety perform job tasks, with or without accommodation.
Accountabilities
- Operate, inspect and do light maintenance on a medium duty truck (26,000 to 33,000 GVWR)
- Basic understanding of ultrasonic non-destructive testing
- Operate a hy-rail vehicle on the track
- Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors and/or customers and effectively handle conflict situations
- Inspect and maintain electronic equipment
Qualifications - Required
- Applicants must have reached the age of 21 or above.
- Proficient verbal communication skills
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Able to understand and apply safety rules, practice safe work habits, identify safety risks and avoid potentially risky behaviors and situations
- Able to become track qualified and pass required safety and rule compliance tests
- Experience reading and understanding instructions (examples may include: operating and safety rules, bulletins, special instructions, and federal regulatory documents)
Qualifications - Preferred
- Proficient mathematic skills
- Basic mechanical experience
- Proficient internet, email and Microsoft Windows skills
- Strong Web/mainframe-based computer systems skills
Physical and Mental Job Requirements
- Normal color vision, enabling the detection and interpretation of various visual color signals and displays, as well as the ability to determine the speed of moving objects at both close and distant ranges.
- Walking: Safely walk and maintain balance on uneven surfaces.
Work Conditions
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring company sponsorship.
- Willingness to work outside regardless of weather conditions
- Agree to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection where the company requires

- Must be willing and able to work around large equipment such as railcars, locomotives and cranes
- Must be available to work 7 days a week, 24 hours a day

- This job is governed by the American Railway and Airway Supervisors Association's (ARASA) Collective Bargaining Agreement, however, you will not receive a seniority date or have seniority rights
