Description

Harriman Dispatching Center (HDC) Electronic Technicians are responsible for repair, maintenance and installation of computers, computer peripherals, VoIP and analog phones, AV equipment and low voltage cabling systems at Union Pacific's Omaha, NE office. These systems support voice and data connectivity across the Union Pacific Network as well as train dispatchers, along with other IP-based technologies, to provide real-time data collection.
 

Accountabilities

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors and/or customers and effectively handle controversy 
  • Record keeping for cabling and data systems as well as testing results 
  • Troubleshoot failures, and restore service for variety of IP based systems 
  • Have a basic understanding of IP systems, IP addresses and MAC addresses 
  • Read prints, schematics and technical manuals, have basic understanding of AC & DC theory, Ohms Law, DC rectifiers systems 
  • Use a variety of test equipment including RF Watt meters, in-line network test meters and cable certifiers, fiber optic power and loss meters and OTDRs 
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Qualifications - Required

  • Computer literate and have basic keyboarding computer skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must have the following: 1) formal training equivalent to an associate?s degree or higher in the electronic engineering or electronic technologies field or a related technical field such as industrial electronics or communication/radio electronics OR 2) 2+ years experience installing and troubleshooting electronics systems, RF systems, cellular radios systems, radar and other communications systems or industrial electronics
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills to deliver information to coworker(s) and supervisor(s)
  • Able to read and comprehend regulations and instructions
