Join our esteemed team of Bridge & Building Carpenters, contributing to the legacy of repairing railroad infrastructure for Union Pacific spanning over 150 years! As a Bridge and Building Carpenter, you will play a pivotal role in the construction, maintenance, and restoration of bridges and structures, all under the guidance of a dedicated foreman. Your craftsmanship in mending our vital bridge structures will ensure the safe and efficient movement of Union Pacific trains, facilitating our mission to serve customers across North America seamlessly. Mandatory Certifications:

In this role, you will be required to obtain Union Pacific certification during your probationary period. To achieve this certification, you must meet the following Motor Vehicle and Medical Requirements:

Accountabilities

  • Execute a range of tasks such as painting, framing, and installing bridge timbers, conducting pile driving, executing masonry repairs on bridges (including tasks like concrete form construction, layout, pouring, and finishing), and various construction and repair work related to culverts, timber and steel bridges, as well as buildings.

  • Uphold adherence to all safety, operational, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations and standards within the railroad industry.

  • Foster and sustain constructive working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, contractors, customers, and effectively manage emergency situations when they arise.

  • Fulfill any additional responsibilities as delegated by supervisory staff or as required by the job role.

Qualifications - Required

  • Applicants must have reached the age of 18 or above.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills to deliver information to coworker(s) and supervisor(s)
  • Able to read and comprehend blueprints
  • Able to read and comprehend regulations and instructions as well as possess good verbal communication skills

Qualifications - Preferred

  • Proficiency in operating heavy machinery, including but not limited to construction and agricultural equipment, with a strong background in professional, personal, or volunteer roles.

  • Demonstrated ability to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions, drawing from both professional and personal experiences, as well as volunteer work.

  • Prior experience in construction-related environments, gained through professional, personal, or volunteer engagements.

  • Flexibility to work on an on-call basis, willingness to put in overtime, adapt to various shifts, including weekends and holidays, and the ability to work up to seven days a week as required.

Physical and Mental Job Requirements

  • Physical Stamina: The role involves engaging in physically demanding tasks consistently. Occasional bending, stooping, and kneeling may be required. Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination are essential.
  • Standing: Must be capable of standing for extended periods during the workday, with the flexibility to change positions periodically for comfort.
  • Walking: Safely walk and maintain balance on uneven surfaces.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Must be able to occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 65 lbs, as well as push and pull objects up to 119 lbs.
