What can I expect if I am invited to take a hiring assessment?
ANSWER: The assessments are conducted online and are unproctored tests. Candidates will receive an email to take the assessment. The individual test link can be accessed from the 'Jobs Applied' section on your UP.jobs account. Clicking on the test link will redirect you to the website of our third-party vendor. Before starting the assessment, you will need to review and agree to the provided Terms. At this time the assessment is not optimized for mobile administration so you will need to use a laptop or desktop computer. Certain assessments may have timed components, and you will be informed of the allotted time before starting the test, if applicable. Please note that the assessment will remain available until the hiring need for the posted location is fulfilled, so it is important to complete it promptly for timely consideration.

What if I have previously taken the hiring assessment and passed?
ANSWER: Once you successfully pass an assessment, the result remains valid for two (2) years from the date of passing. This passing result will be applied to subsequent applications that require the same assessment. Keep in mind that Union Pacific utilizes multiple assessment types tailored to different job titles, positions, and departments. While some assessments may share similarities across different job types, they are specific to each particular role. To access sample test items by job title, click here. If you believe you have passed the appropriate assessment but your application is not reflecting the passing result, please create a ticket to have Union Pacific investigate the issue further.
How is the hiring assessment scored and how do I find out my results?
ANSWER: After completing an assessment, you will receive a pass or fail result. Actual scores are not provided to either you or Union Pacific. Depending on the testing vendor, you may see your results immediately after completing the assessment, or they will be updated on your application in your UP.jobs account within an hour. According to Union Pacific's policy, passing results are valid for two (2) years. Once you become a Union Pacific employee, your passing result will remain valid for the duration of your employment. If you do not pass the assessment, you can reapply and retest after 60 days. Do NOT create another UP.jobs account to retest. Our system identifies duplicate accounts and you will be removed from the hiring process. Assessment results will automatically update your application and other applications that require the same test, and you can view your result(s) in the "Jobs Applied" section of your UP.jobs account. Additionally, an email update will be sent to the address listed on your application. Note that achieving a qualifying test result does not automatically guarantee an interview.
How is the hiring assessment scored and how do I find out my results?
ANSWER: If you encounter technical issues while taking the assessment, such as a loss of internet connection, computer malfunction, or inability to complete the assessment in one sitting, you will be able to resume exactly where you left off. Simply follow the instructions provided in your initial testing invitation, and the system will recognize your incomplete record and allow you to continue from where you stopped. If you experience technical difficulties during the assessment, please refer to the message in your UP.jobs account or the testing invitation email for contact instructions specific to your testing vendor. They will be able to assist you with any technical issues you may encounter.
What if I need a reasonable accommodation?
ANSWER: If you require reasonable accommodation(s) due to a physical or cognitive disability, it is crucial to request and obtain approval for the accommodation before taking the test. Please note that we are unable to reset the test if you take the assessment before requesting the necessary accommodation. It is important to follow the proper procedure and obtain approval for accommodation in advance.
