Health & Wellness

Medical and Prescription Insurance

Employees have the option to select from two different High Deductible Health Plans (HDHPs) with low monthly premiums. These HDHPs are designed to be paired with a Health Savings Account (HSA) that can be used for annual deductibles and any out-of-pocket covered medical costs.

The third plan is a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) option with lower deductibles, lower out-of pocket maximums, and Rx coverage without having to first meet a deductible.

Dental and Vision

Dental: We provide dental coverage for you and your family. Preventive care is covered 100 percent, with no deductible. The plan also covers restorative work, prosthetics, oral surgery, and child and adult orthodontia.

Vision: We provide vision coverage for you and your family. The plan includes eye exams, as well as discounted frames and lenses.

Life and Disability Insurance

In the event of a health or family crisis, Union Pacific makes sure that you and your family will be financially protected.

We offer core life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance (up to $50,000) at no cost to employees. Employees may purchase additional coverage for yourself, and for your spouse or domestic partner, and children.

What is Railroad Retirement?

Railroad Retirement is a program similar to, but legislatively and administratively separate from, the Social Security system. The two systems (Social Security and Railroad Retirement) are closely coordinated with regard to earnings credits, benefit payments and taxes. 401(k) Comprehensive Plan

The 401(k) Comprehensive Plan is a flexible and convenient way to save for your retirement. It offers several investment options, with a variety of funds to choose from.

Employees are eligible to participate immediately upon joining the company and receive a match of their 401(k) contributions dollar-for-dollar, up to six percent of their salary, plus an additional 3% annual contribution based on their salary.

We know how important family can be, and how important it is to be a part of your community. That's why we offer such robust adoption and surrogacy reimbursement, child care programs, as well as generous giving programs.

Adoption/Surrogacy Assistance

The Adoption/Surrogacy Assistance Program reimburses eligible employees for certain expenses incurred in the adoption of a child or surrogate parenting arrangement.

Child Care/Care Support Services

We recognize employees may need help at home to support the varying work schedules required to run the railroad's 24/7 operations. This is why we offer a company child development center, as well as access to Bright Horizons Care Advantage™. This resource provides access to the largest self-select online database of caregivers. Featured services supporting better work-life balance include:

Parental Leave

Birth mothers will receive six weeks of paid leave in addition to short-term disability six-week benefit for normal delivery or eight-week benefit for cesarean section delivery. Employees not receiving Maternity leave may take Parental leave. Parental leave is a paid leave of up to 2 weeks to actively bond with a child following (1) the birth of an employee’s own child or (2) the placement of a child with an employee in connection with adoption or foster care.

Milk Stork

Union Pacific offers a service for pumping and shipping or toting of breast milk for our traveling moms. Milk Stork is the first and only breast milk delivery service for business traveling moms, providing no-fuss, refrigerated, express shipping or easy toting of breast milk home to baby.

Community

To support your involvement in the community, we offer two programs to enhance employee giving.

  • MoneyPLUS Program – Supports and extends employee financial contributions to qualified 501(c)(3) public charities.
  • TimePLUS Program – Employees who volunteer their individual time may apply for a $250 gift from the company to support the public charity they assist.

Virgin Pulse

Whether you want to earn incentives, lose weight, feel energized, or live healthier than ever, Virgin Pulse can help you get there. Employees who choose to participate in the wellness program will earn an incentive, up to a maximum of $600, payable in Virgin Pulse Dollars, for completing the activities during the year.

System Health Facility Program (SHF)

Union Pacific contracts with numerous fitness centers nationwide. Fitness centers and gyms are chosen because of close proximity to work locations where there are critical masses of employees. Employees who work in Union Pacific Center (UPC) are welcome to use the Omaha Health and Fitness Center and may use the SHF network while traveling.

Other Benefits

Vacation

During your first year of employment, three weeks of vacation is allotted and prorated depending on the number of whole months remaining after your hire date. Over time, you can earn up to five weeks of vacation, based on your position and years of service with us.

In addition to your paid vacation days, you may receive - depending on your position - 11 paid holidays each year.

Transportation Spending Account

Employees are eligible to participate in a Transportation Spending Account (TSA) to make parking and commuting more affordable. The account can be used to pay for these costs directly to the parking provider on a pre-tax basis, through payroll deduction.

Tuition Reimbursement 

Our Educational Assistance Program is provided to encourage growth and development of employees through the University of Nebraska - Omaha.  This partnership allows you to take online or in person classes at UNO, which has over 200 programs of study.  Plus, Union Pacific pays UNO directly, eliminating your out of pocket costs.
