Transportation Manager

Keeping more than 3,000 trains moving safely and on time on our 32,000 miles of track takes careful planning and on-the-spot problem solving.

As a manager in the OMT program, you will:

  • Gain experience and competence in railroad operations
  • Develop first-line management skills to lead a diverse group of skilled craftsmen
  • Receive extensive on-the-job and classroom training

This position will require you to work long hours in all weather conditions, weekends, holidays and on-call. Requirements

We're looking for college graduates (for transportation we look for various degrees) who thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment. We need critical thinkers with strong analytical and communication skills who have the confidence to lead a diverse employee workforce. Candidates will be required to take an operating management test.

Union Pacific's Operations Management Training program offers 4 classes each year - January, April, July and September.

Salary Information

Starting salary: $60,000 - 69,000*
At 6 Months: $3,500 increase**
At Assignment: $71,000 - 78,000*

*Based on skills, experience and geographical location. Assignment made upon completion of the training program.

**Salary increase may vary based on performance, training and assignment schedule.

Training

As a Transportation Manager, you will begin in Operations Management Training (OMT) which consists of 12 months of classroom and on-the-job education. Here you will learn everything you will need to build your foundation for a career with significant advancement potential. Your training will begin at our Omaha, Nebraska, headquarters and continue in a field assignment.

Your education will carry on long after you have left the formal training phase of the Operations Management program.
