Supporting Our Military
Some of Union Pacific's first employees were Civil War veterans, and through out our 150 plus year history, we've consistently supported the military – whether by moving troops and supplies, or by providing good jobs for veterans and active-duty soldiers.- Union Pacific complies with the Uniformed Services Employment Rights Act (USERRA) which provides leave and reemployment rights for veterans, reservists, National Guard members, and others serving in the uniformed services.
Union Pacific is dedicated to providing quality transportation to America's military and has worked to create strong partnerships with 26 facilities nationwide, such as Fort Riley in Kansas.
Recently, Union Pacific and Fort Riley worked together on a 33,000-track-foot rail yard expansion that allows the facility to build four to five trains in advance and deploy an entire brigade – 600 to 700 railcars – in less than two days.
Support at Every Level
Our support for military veterans is visible at all levels of the company – including Union Pacific's board of directors.- Retired General Charles C. Krulak, who served as the 31st Commandant of the Marine Corps from 1995 – 1999, is on the company’s board of directors.
