Marketing & Sales

As the main contact with customers, you will be part of a team responsible for understanding client needs and matching those requirements with Union Pacific product offerings. You will coordinate with other Union Pacific departments to make sure resources and strategies are in place to meet our commitments to customers.

Marketing & Sales is made up of four major commodity groups – energy, industrial products, premium and agricultural products – as well as,an international business unit focused in Mexico and our LOUP Logistics subsidiary. Within Marketing & Sales, you will have the opportunity to negotiate deals that make a major impact on the company – bringing in more than $13 billion in revenue each year – and on the nation. You may also work with customers to solve everyday logistics challenges in a fast paced environment at UP’s LOUP Logistics. What does that look like in real life? We move enough lumber, every day, to build 2,600 homes. We move enough ethanol to keep 1 million vehicles running for an entire year. And, in one year, Union Pacific moves enough beer that if the bottles were placed end to end, they would circle the earth 23 times. The Marketing & Sales team helps build America — and so will you, when join the team.

You will start as a Commercial Consultant within one of our dynamic business units, and work with a manager who will mentor you and promote your personal and professional progress.

New commercial hires participate in a year-long Commercial Development Program (CDP), which provides exposure to key components of an effective commercial skill set through hands-on learning. In this immersive program, CDP participants remain in their day-to-day jobs but also work together a few hours a month to complete group projects, meet subject matter experts and learn about important business concepts. In the CDP, you will learn alongside your peers who are also new to the Marketing & Sales team.

Our employees are constantly challenged to learn new technology and new ways of thinking. If you’d like to continue your learning outside of work, our Educational Assistance Program encourages full-time regular staff employees to take job related courses during their non-work hours at accredited schools, colleges and universities. The program reimburses employees for 100 percent of tuition up to $5,250 a year.

Union Pacific also provides various internal training opportunities and encourages employees to attend outside development and seminars.
